Examination will be offline pen and paper test. It will be of three hours duration, starting from 2.00 pm and ending on 5.00 pm.

Paper pattern

Paper will contain 180 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Biology will contain 90 questions (45 Zoology and 45 Botany) and Physics and Chemistry will contain 45 questions each.
Questions will be MCQ type with single correct answer. Right answer will reward you with +4 marks and wrong answer will cause a negative marking of -1 marks (25% penalty).
80% questions will come from syllabus of NCERT Books of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, taught in 11th and 12th class. So commanding NCERT is a must and you will have to read it as a holy book for sure success in NEET.

An analysis of difficulty level and Chapterwise weightage is given below:
(Note: The following analysis is done by looking at all the papers from 2008 to 2018. Please do not relate it with a particular year paper.)

Difficulty level

Difficulty level of NEET paper is overall moderate. Difficulty wise distribution of questions:
● 10% questions (about 18 out of 180) are difficult.
● 35% questions (about 63 out of 180) are moderate.
● 55% questions (about 99 out of 180) are easy.
About 70 questions in Biology are of easy level.

So you can see, in Physics, 22 questions come from 11th syllabus and 23 questions come from 12th syllabus.
In Chemistry, 23 questions come from 11th syllabus and 22 questions come from 12th syllabus.
In Biology, 46 questions comes from 11th syllabus and 44 questions comes from 12th syllabus.
So overall, 91 questions (50.5% part) come from 11th syllabus and 89 questions (49.5% part) come from 12th syllabus.
So 11th is very important for NEET and you will have to revise it regularly along with your 12th syllabus.

Repeated questions

● In Biology, about 40% questions are repeated (not exactly, but in some modified form) questions of past year NEET/AIIMS/State-PMTs papers.
● In Physics, about 30% questions are repeated (not exactly, but in some modified form) questions of past year NEET/AIIMS/JEE-Main/State-PMTs papers.
● In Chemistry, about 35% questions are repeated (not exactly, but in some modified form) questions of past year NEET/AIIMS/JEE-Main/State-PMTs papers.

So solving past 10 years questions of NEET/AIIMS/JEE-Main/State-PMTs papers is very important.

I hope this article will be helpful for you. If you still have any queries, please ask it in comments.
