No AIIMS and JIPMER, only NEET to be conducted in 2020- know its advantages, disadvantages and effect on paper pattern

On 4th October, 2019, Honorable Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan announced that from 2020 onwards, the NEET examination will also be applicable to institutes of national importance like AIIMS and JIPMER and there will be common counselling for admission to MBBS in all colleges of India.
So there will be no any AIIMS-UG 2020 and JIPMER-UG 2020 examinations. Only NEET 2020 will be conducted for admission to MBBS in all colleges of India.

Advantages of this decision:

  1. Benifit to those students for whom online exam was a nightmare, they can now appear in NEET and if their score is good they can get into AIIMS or JIPMER.
  2. Seats will increase due to addition of AIIMS and JIPMER seats.
  3. Common syllabus to judge every student.
  4. Reduction of financial burden, which students earlier had, due to filling of multiple examination and counselling forms and their fees.

Disadvantages of this decision:

  1. Only one chance (in a year) to qualify which will develop mental pressure on the aspirants.
  2. Many students who could not do well in NEET did well in AIIMS and JIPMER, so now students have to give their entire focus on NEET, which might be a trouble for them.
  3. Uncertainity over difficulty level.
  4. Only Offline Exam which is not at all a good thing if conducting examination for AIIMS/JIPMER.
  5. The autonomous feature of AIIMS and JIPMER is in danger.

Syllabus will remain the same

Atleast for 2020 examination, the syllabus shall not change, as there is very few time left for examination and government would not like to put students in more trouble.
So, study according to NEET Syllabus only, with maximum focus on NCERT.

Paper pattern may slightly change

There may be (not confirmed) introduction of Assertion- Reason questions, to match the level of AIIMS paper. But other than this, no any change is expected to take place.

Difficulty level of Paper shall increase.

AIIMS-UG examination was of higher difficulty level, which allowed best brains to take admission in AIIMS colleges. Moreover, cutoff for admission through NEET has also increased to a higher extent.
So to atleast maintain the dignity of AIIMS and lower the cutoff scores, difficulty level of paper shall be increased.
